2000
The idea is born
A group of young students from across London universities come together to discuss the concept of united action and what that looks like
2003
Charity Week begins
One student with a shoebox, creates a handmade poster and stands outside of a London university prayer room collecting funds for orphans and children in need. £73 is raised and Charity Week is born
2004
Charity Week takes over London, UK
Islamic Societies in universities across London take part in the first official Charity Week.
£30,000 is raised and a school in Mandera, Kenya is built with the funds.
2007-08
Charity Week spreads across the UK
2007 sees universities in the Midlands and North of the UK take on Charity Week with Scotland and Wales joining in 2008
2010
Charity Week begins in the Republic of Ireland
Universities across Ireland begin their Charity Week journey for the first time.
2013
Charity Week begins in Canada
A grad student in Canada comes across Charity Week videos on YouTube and gets in touch to begin Charity Week in Canada
2014
Charity Week begins in Qatar
A student in a Qatar Foundation university comes across Charity Week and gets in touch to begin Charity Week in Qatar
2015
Charity Week begins in USA and Germany
Two ex-Imeprial College London graduates begin Charity Week in the USA and Germany respectively
2016
Charity Week begins in Australia
The year we raised £1million in Charity Week for the first time
An Islamic Relief volunteer in Australia being Charity Week in Australia
For the first time, we raise over £1million in Charity Week and we manage to fund all the projects on the project survey
2018
Charity Week begins in South Africa
An ex-Islamic Relief Bristol (UK) volunteer begins Charity Week in South Africa
2020
Charity Week goes fully virtual
The Covid-19 pandemic forces Charity Week and all the participating institutions to work virtually. Despite this, we raise more in a single year than we have ever before
